United Fire and Water (UFW) responded to a water damage job in Lake Charles, Louisiana, caused by a water leak from the ceiling. Upon arrival, the team began the drying process by setting up five dehumidifiers, four air movers, and three air scrubbers to help mitigate the moisture in the affected areas. A 2-foot flood cut was performed to remove damaged materials and allow better airflow for drying. This flood cut will help speed up the drying process and prevent mold growth in the affected areas, while also facilitating the removal of damaged building materials.

During the inspection, it was noted that one area of the sill plate was still wet, with a moisture reading of 27. The team determined that this area would need further attention, as excessive moisture in the sill plate could lead to structural issues if not properly dried. Additionally, some of the equipment base was found to be rotten, along with other materials that had sustained damage from the leak. These findings highlighted the importance of thoroughly addressing all affected areas to prevent further damage and ensure the integrity of the home.

UFW also identified that some of the carpet remained wet, and it was recommended that the carpet be removed to facilitate proper drying. The team advised Dione to contact Wesley to determine if removal of the carpet was feasible, as leaving it in place could hinder the drying process and lead to further damage. With the necessary drying equipment in place and plans to address the remaining moisture issues, UFW is committed to fully restoring the home to its pre-damage condition and ensuring that all affected materials are properly dried and replaced.
