Why did the customer contact us?
United Fire and Water (UFW) responded to a water damage situation in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where the air conditioning unit in the attic was leaking and causing water damage in multiple rooms. The moisture intrusion affected several areas, including the Grooming room, ICU, and the upstairs Office Gym. UFW’s initial inspection revealed low moisture readings in the Grooming room and ICU, so the team planned to remove the baseboard from one wall in both rooms. They would then use air movers to pump air into the walls to speed up the drying process.
Solutions provided:
In the upstairs Office Gym, moisture readings were high in one of the walls, prompting UFW to set up additional drying equipment. To address the moisture in this area, one dehumidifier and two air movers were placed to ensure effective drying. Given the extent of the moisture readings and the type of materials affected, the drying process was expected to take only a couple of days, with an estimate of two to three days for the entire drying operation to be completed.
As part of the drying process, UFW also took additional measures by removing 10 linear feet of baseboard and cutting 2.5 linear feet of drywall from the Gym area to allow for better airflow and drying. After setting the necessary equipment, including air movers and dehumidifiers, UFW continued monitoring the drying progress. The equipment was left in place, with one air mover and one dehumidifier set to continue the drying process for the next couple of days. This careful and precise approach ensured that the water damage was effectively addressed and that the affected areas were properly restored.
