Completion date: January 9, 2023
Location: Zachary, LA
Why did the customer contact us?
United Fire and Water was called to a home in Zachary, Louisiana, after the homeowner discovered busted pipes that caused significant water damage throughout the house. A technician was dispatched to assess the situation and found that the burst pipe, located underneath the kitchen counter, had saturated the kitchen floor and spread into the front bedroom. The damage was severe, requiring the removal of the laminate flooring, baseboards, and trim to properly address the moisture buildup. Drying equipment was then set up to begin the restoration process and prevent further damage.
Solutions provided:
As part of the mitigation process, the affected areas were carefully decontaminated to minimize the risk of mold growth. Our team took additional precautions by purifying the air while running the drying equipment and performing necessary demolition. This was crucial to preventing cross-contamination into unaffected areas and ensuring that the home was properly dried out. The kitchen's laminate countertop had also sustained damage, showing signs of warping due to the moisture exposure. As a result, it was noted that the countertop would need to be replaced to restore the kitchen.
Additionally, the cabinetry in the kitchen was found to be impacted by the water. The paneling behind the cabinets required drying and decontamination to avoid mold formation. The wall cavities behind the paneling were also at risk and might require drying as well. However, United Fire and Water will not remove the cabinetry without prior approval from the homeowner's insurance carrier, ensuring that all actions taken align with their insurance policy.
