Completion date: December 8, 2023
Location: Lake Charles, LA
Why did the customer contact us?
United Fire and Water (UFW) responded to a water damage job in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after a customer’s home was affected by a fire. The customer experienced both smoke and soot damage, which required thorough restoration and cleaning. As part of the restoration scope, UFW made specific adjustments based on the customer's requests and the areas that were assessed during the project. For instance, the Hydroxyl/Ozone treatment, which is typically used for air purification, was removed from the estimate as the customer did not request it. Similarly, line items related to floor cleaning in certain areas, such as the living room and foyer, were also removed, as those areas were not part of the cleaning scope.
Solutions provided:
Additionally, UFW accommodated the homeowner’s preferences regarding certain treatments, such as not performing work in the garage, resulting in those line items being marked with a $0.00 charge. A similar approach was taken with the closet cleaning tasks, which were also removed from the scope, and the associated costs were adjusted accordingly. Furthermore, the customer declined carpet cleaning, and as a result, all related line items were eliminated from the estimate. UFW ensured that these changes were well-documented, with a work checklist provided by the project manager in the final close-out package, giving the homeowner clarity on the scope and charges.
It’s important to note that UFW did not use drying equipment on this job, which led to the removal of related line items from the estimate. Likewise, the dryer was not removed or reset, resulting in a $0.00 charge for those tasks. The team did, however, use air purification equipment for the contents and pack-out process, and the associated costs were reflected on a separate invoice. To support the thoroughness of the restoration work, pictures of the cleaning process were included, showing the results as well as the dirty chemical sponges used in cleaning the walls. This meticulous documentation helped ensure that the homeowner was fully informed throughout the project. FIRE SMOKE SOOT DAMAGE
